SAINT MARTIN LE BEAU

History :
'Sanctus Martinus Bello' (Saint Martin of War) where the Tourangeaux routed the Normans in 903 while brandishing the relics of Saint Martin. The village acquired its present name in the 19th century.
Sites
Saint Martin church :
Dating from 12th c. and 16th c., the church is renowned for its Roman entrance (onr of the most beautiful in the area). The church merits a detailed visit, where the various construction periods can easily be seen.
The house of thomas Bohier :
This beautiful Renaissance building dating from the 16th century was the home of the financier Thomas Bohier, Controller to several Kings of France, Seigneur of Saint Martin le Beau and a number of other fiefs. He was responsible for the reconstruction of the Chateau de Chenonceau, which he owned from 1496 to 1512. Today the manor house is a cultural centre for a variety of exhibitions.
