History :
The name could come from Silvariacum wich means a forested area, or Severiacum, the possibly Roman name of a rich landowner.
Saint Germain Church: This 13th c. church became a listed building in 1946. It is dedicated to Saint Germain. Civray belonged to St Germain who was bishop of Paris.
The church is built on an older sanctuary. There are traces of an 8th c. baptistery fitted with a pottery basin wich was probably a 4th or 5th c. jar used for grain storage. This jar is kept in the Hotel Gouin at Tours.
The Mesvres Keep from the 12th to 15th c.
